About

I was born in Morgantown, WV to a preacher dad and a social worker mom. We lived in a small town called Grafton until I was five years old, and then the Micks migrated down to Jacksonville, FL. I struck out north again in 2010 from the Sunshine State to attend Lipscomb University in Nashville, TN. After graduating college, I worked lots of part time jobs to pay the bills (Target, Hoss’ Loaded Burgers, Nashville Marriott @ Vanderbilt, and many more) before transitioning to playing music full time in 2018. In 2015, I married an incredible woman named Shelby M’lynn Smith. She’s a terrifically talented photographer and designer. She is endlessly patient, industrious, generous, and brave. I like her very much. Together, we’re the proud parents of a dynamite little girl named Miriam.

I spend most of my time writing songs, making records, and touring clubs and theaters across the country with an acoustic string band called The Arcadian Wild. I’ve also had the privilege of working with my dear friend Andrew Peterson, accompanying him as part of a small ensemble for his regular concerts throughout the year as often as I’m able, and also getting to jump in as a featured guest with the rest of my band for his Behold the Lamb of God tour each winter since 2021.

Thanks for coming to visit me here. Have a look around, and reach out if you’d like! I’d love to connect with you.
